Is OctaFX safe & legal?

Is OctaFX (Elev8) Legit & Safe, or a Scam? (2026)

An independent, two-sided verdict — offshore regulation, the real Trustpilot picture, and who it's actually OK for.

Short version: OctaFX (now Elev8) is a real, operating broker — not an obvious scam — but it is offshore-regulated only, and it carries a genuine, recurring complaint theme around large withdrawals. "Safe" is not a yes/no here. Below we lay out the regulation, the actual Trustpilot picture (with its caveats), the praise and the complaints side by side, and an honest verdict on who it fits and who should be cautious.

  4. The balanced picture: praise vs complaints
  5. Who it's OK for — and who should be cautious
  6. Bottom line
Elev8 is regulated by offshore authorities only — the FSC in Mauritius and MISA in the Comoros — not by any tier-1 regulator; the former CySEC (EU) entity was not carried into the Elev8 brand. Trustpilot sits at ≈3.8/5 across a wide sample, but Trustpilot flags that the broker asks for reviews and pays for features. Small withdrawals are widely reported as fast; the dominant complaint is about large ones.

The honest short answer

Let's separate two questions that often get merged: "Is this a real broker or a fake site?" and "Is it safe to trust with my money?"

On the first: OctaFX has operated for well over a decade, has a large global user base, real trading platforms (MT4, MT5 and its own OctaTrader/Elev8Trader), and a publicly documented rebrand to Elev8 in February 2026. That is not the profile of a here-today-gone-tomorrow scam clone.

On the second, the answer is more nuanced and it's where an honest review has to slow down. The protection you get is offshore-level, not tier-1, and there is a real, repeated complaint pattern around large withdrawals and extra verification. Neither of those makes it "a scam" — but both are things you should weigh before you fund an account with more than you can afford to lose. We do not call OctaFX/Elev8 a scam, and we do not whitewash it either.

Regulation: offshore only (the real picture)

This is the single most important safety fact, so we'll be precise. Elev8 operates through a multi-entity structure, and — as stated by the broker — the licences are offshore:

EntityJurisdictionRegulator / licenceTier
Elev8 Markets LTDMauritiusFSC Mauritius, licence GB21027161 (reg. C186509)Offshore (more reputable offshore, not tier-1)
Finexis Markets LtdComoros (Mwali/Moheli)MISA, licence T2023320 (reg. HY00623410)Offshore, lightly regulated
Octa Markets Cyprus LtdCyprus (EU)CySEC — tier-1, EU investor compensationTier-1 — NOT carried into Elev8

Licence details as stated by the broker; jurisdictions and tiers per the sources in our facts brief.

What this means in plain terms. The Mauritius FSC is generally regarded as one of the more reputable offshore regulators, but it is still offshore — not the FCA (UK), ASIC (Australia) or CySEC (EU). The Comoros MISA licence is weak: its supervisory practices are considered significantly lighter than higher-tier regulators, and the Comoros central bank (Banque Centrale des Comores) has publicly disputed MISA's legal authority to issue financial licences. We describe MISA as offshore and lightly-regulated — never as strong oversight.

Two caveats we won't hide. First, the former CySEC (Cyprus/EU) entity was not part of the Elev8 rebrand — the group left the brand-sharing arrangement, so Elev8 now runs fully offshore under Mauritius and Comoros only. Do not assume you get EU-style protection with Elev8. Second, one review (BrokersView/FastBull) reported that it could not locate the Mauritius entity in the FSC registry — so treat the Mauritius licence as "as stated by the broker" and verify it yourself if that matters to you.

For fuller context on the name change and which entity is which, see our explainer on what happened to OctaFX (now Elev8).

What Trustpilot actually says (and its caveats)

OctaFX's Trustpilot score sits at roughly 3.8 out of 5, drawn from 9,500+ reviews, and it moves within a 3.7–4.1 band over time. We publish it as a range on purpose — a single frozen number goes stale, and it's easy to cherry-pick a day. Check the live figure yourself: trustpilot.com/review/octafx.com.

There's a separate, much newer Elev8 Trustpilot page sitting around 3.4/5 from roughly 190 reviews. It only dates from the February 2026 rebrand, so treat it as a thin, early sample rather than a settled verdict.

The caveat you must read before trusting that 3.8. Trustpilot's own transparency labels flag that this broker "asks for reviews" and "pays for extra features" on the platform. That means the positive skew is at least partly incentivised — a score inflated by solicited reviews is not the same as an organic one. We're not saying every 5-star review is fake; we're saying you should read the score as "solid but nudged upward," and weight the substance of the complaints (below) more heavily than the star average.

The balanced picture: praise vs complaints

An honest review shows both sides in the same place. Here's what users consistently praise, and the complaint theme that recurs across review platforms.

Commonly praisedDominant complaint theme
Fast trade executionLarge withdrawals blocked or delayed
Commission-free / low spreadsRepeated KYC / verification loops
Fast small withdrawalsSome "frozen account" / refused-withdrawal allegations
Multilingual 24/7 supportExtra verification requests before payout

On the praise: the positives are real and worth crediting. Execution is reported as fast, the standard accounts are genuinely commission-free (your cost is in the spread), small withdrawals are widely reported as quick, and support is multilingual and around the clock. For beginners, that's a low-friction start.

On the complaints — read this carefully. The recurring pattern, across multiple review sites, is not about small cash-outs; it's about large withdrawals attracting extra verification and delays. Some individual users go further and allege frozen accounts or outright refused withdrawals. For example, one Indonesian trader on Forex Peace Army claimed withdrawals were refused after the Elev8 rebrand, and a WikiFX user reported an unresolved withdrawal left "under investigation" (January 2026).

We report those as individual user claims, attributed — not as established fact. We have not independently verified any specific frozen-account case, and it would be dishonest to present one angry thread as proof the broker "steals funds." What we can fairly say is that the theme is consistent enough to take seriously. If you want the detail, we break the pattern down in our OctaFX withdrawal problem guide.

Who it's OK for — and who should be cautious

The goal here isn't to sell you an account or scare you off it — it's to help you decide. Given offshore-only regulation and the large-withdrawal complaint theme, here's an honest split.

OctaFX (Elev8) may be OK for you if:

  • You want a low-barrier, beginner-friendly, commission-free account and copy trading, and you're depositing a modest amount you can afford to lose.
  • You're in a region where tier-1 brokers are hard to access, and an offshore broker with a large user base is a reasonable trade-off you're making with eyes open.
  • You'll withdraw regularly in smaller amounts rather than letting a large balance accumulate, and you complete KYC fully and up front to avoid verification loops.

You should be cautious — or look elsewhere — if:

  • Regulatory protection is your priority. If you want EU investor compensation or FCA/ASIC oversight, Elev8's offshore-only setup does not give you that; compare a tier-1 alternative first — see our OctaFX vs Exness comparison, since Exness holds FCA and CySEC licences alongside its offshore ones.
  • You intend to build and then withdraw a large balance. Given the complaint pattern, size positions and deposits so a single blocked withdrawal wouldn't be catastrophic, and don't keep more on the platform than you'd be comfortable arguing over.
  • You expect a broker score to be "proof" of safety. Remember the Trustpilot rating is partly incentivised, and offshore regulation limits your recourse if something goes wrong.

Sensible precautions either way: start small, complete verification early, keep records of deposits and withdrawal requests, and don't chase a deposit bonus into a trading-volume requirement you didn't plan for.

Bottom line

Is OctaFX (Elev8) a scam? On the evidence, no — it's a long-running, real broker with real platforms and a documented rebrand, and it clearly works for a lot of people. Is it "safe" in the strong sense? Not unconditionally. It is offshore-regulated only (Mauritius FSC + Comoros MISA, no tier-1, no EU CySEC under Elev8), its Trustpilot score is solid but partly incentivised, and there is a genuine, repeated complaint theme around large withdrawals and verification — reported here as attributed user claims, not proven fact.

Our honest verdict: reasonable for a small, informed start if you accept the offshore trade-off and withdraw sensibly; not the right choice if top-tier regulatory protection or large, worry-free withdrawals are what you need. Decide with the downsides in view — that's the whole point of reading a review instead of an ad.

FAQ

Is OctaFX (Elev8) a scam?

No — on the available evidence it is a real, long-established broker with genuine platforms and a documented February 2026 rebrand to Elev8, not a fake site. However, it is offshore-regulated only, and there is a recurring complaint theme around large withdrawals. Strong 'scam' or 'frozen my funds' accusations exist but are individual user claims, not verified fact. Treat it as a legitimate but offshore broker and size your risk accordingly.

Is OctaFX regulated?

Yes, but only by offshore regulators as stated by the broker: the FSC in Mauritius (licence GB21027161) and MISA in the Comoros (licence T2023320). It is not regulated by any tier-1 authority such as the FCA, ASIC or CySEC. The former CySEC (EU) entity was not carried into the Elev8 brand, so Elev8 does not offer EU-style investor protection.

Can you actually withdraw money from OctaFX?

Small withdrawals are widely reported as fast, and the broker states most requests are processed within 1–3 hours per its published terms. The recurring complaint is specifically about large withdrawals, which some users report as delayed or subject to extra KYC. To reduce friction, complete verification early and withdraw in smaller amounts rather than letting a large balance build up.

Why is OctaFX's Trustpilot score not fully reliable?

Its score sits around 3.8/5 across 9,500+ reviews, but Trustpilot's own transparency labels flag that the broker asks for reviews and pays for extra features. That means the positive skew is at least partly incentivised, so the star average should be read alongside the substance of the complaints rather than taken at face value. Check the live score at trustpilot.com/review/octafx.com.

Should I use OctaFX or a tier-1 broker?

If regulatory protection is your priority, a tier-1-regulated broker gives you stronger oversight and recourse than Elev8's offshore-only setup — compare our OctaFX vs Exness guide first. OctaFX may still suit you if you want a low-barrier, commission-free account in a region where tier-1 access is limited, provided you deposit only what you can afford to lose.

Decide with the downsides in view

If a low-barrier, commission-free start with offshore regulation fits your plan, you can open a free OctaFX (Elev8) account — just deposit only what you can afford to lose.
