What Is OctaFX (Elev8)? A Beginner's Guide (2026)

Plain-English explainer of what OctaFX is, why it now trades as Elev8, what you can trade, and what to check before you sign up.

OctaFX is a retail forex and CFD broker aimed largely at beginners and traders in emerging markets — and as of February 2026 it trades under a new name, Elev8. It offers commission-free trading on forex, metals, indices, commodities and crypto CFDs through MT4, MT5 and its own OctaTrader platform, with a minimum deposit from $25, a free demo and copy trading. This guide explains what it is, what stayed the same after the rebrand, and — honestly — what to check before you sign up.

In one line: OctaFX (now branded Elev8) is a commission-free forex/CFD broker with MT4, MT5 and OctaTrader, a $25 minimum, a free demo and copy trading — but it runs on offshore regulation (Mauritius FSC + Comoros MISA), not a tier-1 regulator. Good for a low-cost start; confirm the terms and size your deposit accordingly.

What is OctaFX in plain English?

OctaFX is an online broker: a company that gives you an account and a trading app so you can buy and sell markets like currencies, gold and stock indices. You don't own the underlying asset — you trade the price movement through contracts for difference (CFDs) and forex. It has built its reputation around a low barrier to entry, simple sign-up and a commission-free pricing model, which is why beginners run into the name early.

Two things to know first. The brand has changed — OctaFX now operates as Elev8 (more on that next). And it's an offshore-regulated broker, not one licensed by a top-tier authority like the UK's FCA or Australia's ASIC.

OctaFX is now Elev8 — what changed

On 9 February 2026, the broker rebranded from Octa/OctaFX to Elev8. The old octafx.com now redirects to elev8.com, and existing customers under the relevant entities were migrated across. So when you sign up today, you'll see the Elev8 name and logo — same broker, new coat of paint.

According to the broker and industry press, the rebrand changed the brand name and visual identity only — the customer journey, trading conditions and platform functionality were stated to carry over unchanged. So the OctaFX figures you'll read about — the $25 minimum, commission-free spreads, MT4/MT5/OctaTrader — still describe Elev8. Throughout this guide we say "OctaFX (Elev8)" to make that clear.

One nuance: the group's former Cyprus (CySEC, EU-regulated) entity was not part of the Elev8 rebrand, so Elev8 now operates fully offshore. We unpack what that means in the is OctaFX safe? section below.

What you can trade

OctaFX (Elev8) is a multi-asset CFD broker. The instrument groups that are confirmed across sources are:

  • Forex — currency pairs (majors, minors), the core of the offering.
  • Metals — gold and silver.
  • Indices — stock-market indices as CFDs.
  • Commodities — such as crude oil.
  • Crypto CFDs — Bitcoin, Ethereum and others, traded as price CFDs (not a wallet/exchange); crypto leverage is much lower than forex.
  • Share CFDs — CFDs on individual company stocks are also offered.

The total instrument count is reported at around 260+ under Elev8 (older OctaFX sources cited roughly 300). Treat those as approximate — the exact catalogue varies by region and account, so confirm the live list in your account.

Platforms: MT4, MT5 and OctaTrader

You get a choice of platforms, which is a plus for beginners who may want to switch as they learn:

  • MetaTrader 4 (MT4) — the classic forex platform, simple and widely supported.
  • MetaTrader 5 (MT5) — the newer MetaTrader with more instruments and tools.
  • OctaTrader — the broker's own proprietary web platform (referred to as "Elev8Trader" in some regional sources under the new brand; it's the same proprietary platform).
  • Mobile app — for trading on the go.

Commission-free model, minimum deposit & demo

Three things make OctaFX (Elev8) beginner-friendly, and they're worth understanding together:

FeatureWhat it meansThe honest caveat
Commission-free tradingNo per-trade ticket commission on the standard MT4/MT5/OctaTrader accounts — your cost is in the spread"Free" of commission doesn't mean free to trade; the spread is still a cost
Minimum deposit from $25A low entry point; you can start smallVaries by payment method and region; the broker recommends more for risk management
Free demo accountPractise with virtual funds before risking real moneyDemo conditions don't perfectly mirror live trading psychology

On pricing: the EUR/USD spread is floating, with sources giving a typical range of roughly 0.6–1.1 pips ("from" figures are best-case). Because trading is commission-free, that spread is the main cost — there's no separate ticket fee on the standard accounts. The exact minimum and current spreads for your region are shown once you open an account; we cover funding in depth in our OctaFX minimum deposit guide.

The free demo opens from the Dashboard — a good way to test the platform first; see our OctaFX demo account walkthrough.

Copy trading

OctaFX (Elev8) offers copy trading: you automatically mirror the trades of a more experienced "Master Trader" instead of placing every trade yourself. It's branded OctaTrader Copytrading ("Elev8 Copy" under the new name) with its own mobile app. Master Traders earn a commission; Copiers are charged one weekly (on Saturdays); and negative-balance protection applies, so you can't lose more than your balance.

Copy trading lowers the skill barrier, but not market risk — you're still exposed to the copied trader's losses, and past performance never guarantees future results. Treat it as a tool to learn from, not a shortcut to profit.

Regulation — the honest part

This is the most important thing a beginner should understand, so we'll state it plainly. Elev8 is regulated by offshore authorities — the FSC in Mauritius and MISA in the Comoros — not by any tier-1 regulator. The former CySEC (EU) entity was not carried into the Elev8 brand.

  • Elev8 Markets LTD — Mauritius, regulated by the Financial Services Commission (FSC), one of the more reputable offshore regulators, but not tier-1.
  • Finexis Markets Ltd — Elev8's Comoros entity, licensed by the Mwali International Services Authority (MISA). MISA is a weak, lightly-regulated offshore authority; the Comoros central bank has even publicly disputed its authority to issue financial licenses.

In practice, offshore regulation means less oversight and weaker client protection than a broker supervised by the FCA, ASIC or CySEC. It's common for high-leverage brokers serving emerging markets, but it's a real difference — which is why we tell beginners to only deposit what they can afford to lose. We go deeper, including the two-sided review picture (fast small withdrawals vs. complaints around large ones), in our is OctaFX (Elev8) safe? guide.

Who it's for & what to check first

OctaFX (Elev8) suits you if you're a beginner or emerging-market trader who wants a low-minimum start, commission-free pricing, a choice of MT4/MT5/OctaTrader, and copy trading to learn from. The $25 entry point and free demo make it one of the easier brokers to try without committing much. It's probably not the right fit if top-tier regulatory protection is your priority — in that case, compare it against FCA/ASIC/CySEC-regulated brokers first.

Before you sign up, check these:

  • Regulation: understand it's offshore (Mauritius FSC + Comoros MISA), not tier-1.
  • Verify the live terms: spreads, the exact minimum for your method, leverage caps and available instruments all vary by region — confirm them in your own account, not from a blog.
  • Bonuses have strings: the advertised 50% deposit bonus (where available) becomes withdrawable only after a trading-volume requirement; read the broker's bonus terms.
  • Start on the demo and size any first deposit as money you can afford to lose.

Bottom line: OctaFX — now Elev8 — is an established retail broker with a beginner-friendly package: commission-free trading, a $25 minimum, a free demo, three platforms and copy trading. The honest trade-off is offshore-only regulation. If you go in with eyes open, verify the terms in your account and don't over-deposit, it's a reasonable place to learn.
