OctaFX (Elev8) vs FBS: Honest 2026 Comparison

Minimum deposit, spreads, leverage, regulation and platforms — side by side, with the figures we could actually verify.

Short version: FBS is the more broadly regulated broker with a lower entry deposit and a higher leverage ceiling, while OctaFX (now Elev8) stands out for its live, built-in copy trading. Both are commission-free MT4/MT5 brokers with a proprietary platform, so the honest differences are in regulation, entry cost, leverage and copy trading. Below we put the verified figures side by side — and where a number isn't confirmed for FBS, we say “check FBS's current terms”.

The one difference that matters most: FBS holds two tier-1 licences (CySEC in Cyprus and ASIC in Australia) alongside an offshore Belize entity. OctaFX/Elev8 operates offshore only — FSC Mauritius and MISA in the Comoros — with no tier-1 licence. Note that most retail clients on both brokers still onboard under an offshore arm, so check which entity holds your account.

Here's the head-to-head on the figures we could verify. Spreads and leverage are floating, best-case “from” figures that vary by account, entity and region — treat every number as indicative. We've marked the cell that wins each row where there's a clear, defensible edge.

Regulation: where FBS wins on paper

This is FBS's clearest win, and it's an honest one to give. Under its group entities, FBS holds two tier-1 licences — CySEC (Cyprus) and ASIC (Australia) — alongside its offshore FSC Belize arm; EU clients under its CySEC entity get a compensation scheme of up to €20,000. OctaFX/Elev8, by contrast, operates offshore only: after the February 2026 rebrand it runs under Elev8 Markets LTD (Mauritius, FSC) and Finexis Markets Ltd (the Comoros/MISA entity). The FSC of Mauritius is one of the more reputable offshore regulators but is not tier-1; MISA in the Comoros is a weak, lightly-regulated authority whose legal right to issue financial licences has been publicly disputed by the Comoros central bank. The former OctaFX CySEC entity was not carried into the Elev8 brand, so Elev8 is not CySEC-regulated.

So on the regulatory badge, FBS is ahead. But read the fine print for both brokers: most non-EU, non-Australian retail clients still onboard under the offshore arm — FBS Markets Inc. in Belize, the entity that carries the 1:3000 leverage, not the CySEC or ASIC entity. If you sign up outside the EU or Australia, the tier-1 protection may not be the entity holding your money — so confirm which entity your account sits under.

Plain terms: FBS holds tier-1 CySEC and ASIC licences OctaFX/Elev8 doesn't, so its profile is stronger on paper. That doesn't make OctaFX “a scam” — but offshore-only oversight is a real difference in the protection behind your deposit. Size your positions accordingly.

Minimum deposit & spreads

Entry cost: FBS wins clearly. Its Standard account starts from $5 (some sources note as little as $1 on the Cent account), versus OctaFX's from $25, which varies by payment method and region. Both are beginner-friendly, but FBS lets you start smaller.

EUR/USD spread: this one is close, and honest framing matters because both brokers quote floating, best-case “from” numbers. OctaFX's EUR/USD is reported in a ~0.6–1.1 pip range depending on account and source, commission-free. FBS's Standard account floats around ~0.7–1.2 pips across sources, also commission-free, while its Zero/ECN account starts from 0.0 pips with a commission (about $6 per lot). So OctaFX's commission-free standard spread is marginally tighter, but FBS's raw account reaches a lower headline once you accept the commission — add it back and the all-in cost narrows. For a beginner on a commission-free account the two are broadly comparable; the spread alone isn't a strong reason to pick either.

We haven't independently measured live spreads, so treat every figure as indicative — the binding number is the one in your own terminal. For FBS's exact current spread and account names, check FBS's current terms.

Leverage

Both brokers advertise very high maximum leverage on their offshore entities and cap it hard in regulated regions — so the important detail is which entity you're on.

  • OctaFX (Elev8): up to 1:500 as the global standard, with 1:1000 in some regions or promotions, and 1:30 for EU (CySEC-era) clients.
  • FBS: up to 1:3000 on the offshore Belize (FSC) entity, and 1:500 under its CySEC/ASIC entities.

On the headline ceiling, FBS wins: 1:3000 is well above OctaFX's typical 1:500. But a bigger number isn't automatically better — very high leverage magnifies losses exactly as fast as gains, and 1:3000 only applies on the offshore Belize entity, the one with the lightest oversight. Don't let a leverage headline be the reason you choose a broker.

Platforms, copy trading & extras

On core platforms the two are close: both run the industry-standard MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 and add a proprietary layer. OctaFX has its own web platform, OctaTrader (branded Elev8Trader under the new identity), plus a mobile app; FBS's proprietary product is the FBS Trader mobile app. If you live in MetaTrader, this is a tie; if you want a proprietary web platform rather than a mobile-first one, OctaFX gives you a little more out of the box.

Copy trading is where OctaFX has the live edge. OctaFX ships an integrated, broker-built copy-trading product — “Octa Copytrading,” now “Elev8 Copy” — with a dedicated app, Master Trader and Copier roles, and negative-balance protection. FBS has offered a well-known CopyTrade app too, but its own CopyTrade pages carry closure/wind-down language. So if copy trading is central to your choice, verify FBS's current copy-trading availability on FBS's site before you rely on it — on the facts we could confirm, OctaFX's is the one that's clearly live.

Balance check on OctaFX: its reviews are two-sided. Small withdrawals are widely reported as fast, but the recurring complaint across platforms is around large withdrawals, extra verification (KYC) loops and delays; some users have alleged frozen accounts — unverified individual claims, not proven facts, but worth weighing alongside offshore-only regulation.

Pick OctaFX if… / Pick FBS if…

Neither broker is “the winner” in the abstract — it depends on what you weight. The honest split:

Pick OctaFX (Elev8) if…

  • You specifically want live, built-in copy trading and a proprietary web platform (OctaTrader/Elev8Trader), not just MetaTrader.
  • You prefer a simple commission-free standard account and a marginally tighter commission-free EUR/USD spread.
  • You're comfortable with an offshore broker and trading a balance you've sized for that risk.

Pick FBS if…

  • Regulatory protection is your priority — FBS's tier-1 CySEC and ASIC licences are the strongest reason to choose it (check which entity you onboard under).
  • You want the lowest entry point (from $5) or the highest leverage ceiling (up to 1:3000 on the Belize entity).
  • You want a commission-based Zero/ECN account with a raw, from-0.0-pip headline spread.

For a fuller side-by-side, including Exness and XM, see our broker comparison. Whichever way you lean, verify the live figures in-account first.

Bottom line

FBS wins on regulation, entry cost and leverage ceiling; OctaFX/Elev8 wins on live copy trading and commission-free simplicity; spreads and core platforms are close. The single most important difference is regulation: FBS carries tier-1 CySEC and ASIC licences plus an offshore Belize arm, while OctaFX/Elev8 is offshore only (FSC Mauritius + MISA Comoros) — though most retail clients on both brokers still sit under an offshore entity, so check which one holds your account. If protection behind your deposit, a $5 entry or a 1:3000 ceiling matter most, FBS points the way. If you want genuinely live copy trading and a clean commission-free account, and you've sized your risk for an offshore broker, OctaFX is a reasonable pick. Everything above reflects published terms; anything we couldn't confirm for FBS, check its current terms rather than trust a copied number.

FAQ

Is OctaFX (Elev8) or FBS better regulated?

FBS is better regulated on paper. It holds two tier-1 licences — CySEC (Cyprus) and ASIC (Australia) — alongside its offshore FSC Belize entity, while OctaFX/Elev8 operates under offshore regulators only (FSC Mauritius and MISA Comoros), with no tier-1 licence. That said, most retail clients still onboard under each broker's offshore arm.

Which has the lower minimum deposit, OctaFX or FBS?

FBS. Its Standard account starts from $5 (some sources note $1 on the Cent account), while OctaFX (Elev8) is from $25 and varies by payment method and region. Both are low, beginner-friendly entry points.

Are OctaFX and FBS spreads similar?

They're broadly comparable. OctaFX's EUR/USD floats around 0.6–1.1 pips; FBS's Standard account floats around 0.7–1.2 pips, and its Zero/ECN account starts from 0.0 pips with a commission (about $6 per lot). These are best-case floating 'from' figures — confirm the live spread in your terminal.

Which offers higher leverage?

FBS, on the headline ceiling. It advertises up to 1:3000 on its offshore Belize entity, versus OctaFX's typical 1:500 (1:1000 in some regions). Both cap leverage far lower in regulated regions — OctaFX at 1:30 for EU clients, FBS at 1:500 under CySEC/ASIC. High leverage magnifies losses as fast as gains.

Does FBS still offer copy trading like OctaFX?

OctaFX (Elev8) has a live, built-in copy-trading product with a dedicated app. FBS has offered a well-known CopyTrade app, but its own pages carry wind-down/closure language — so verify FBS's current copy-trading availability on its site before relying on it.
